Welcome to Alison Jaap - July 2010

CPC is pleased to announce the appointment of Alison Jaap as its new Director of Business Consulting.

Alison joins CPC from PA Consulting Group where she was responsible for managing their UK wide local government account, building on her previous role as Head of Partnership and Joint Working at the Scottish Local Government Improvement Service. Alison has more than 10 year’s consultancy experience in the public sector working with clients in local government, justice, welfare, developed government and finance. She specialises in programmes demanding the need to integrate people, process and IT change.

Commenting on her appointment, Alison says: “The next few years will be a critical time for the public sector as organisations navigate massive change driven by altered customer demands and the need to deliver huge savings. CPC has built a strong business consulting team with extensive experience, particularly in health, adult and children’s services and education. I am very pleased to have joined the team and am looking forward to continuing helping our clients succeed”.

CPC’s Managing Director Steve Mole adds: “I am delighted to welcome Alison to CPC. Her appointment is yet another key milestone in CPC’s development, strengthening even further our presence in Scotland and helping us to capitalise on our national frameworks. Alison has huge experience and I am confident her knowledge and insight will help us drive the business forward”.

Social Value Conference - 8 June 2010

CPC was the Platinum Sponsor at the national Social Value Conference on Tuesday 8th June. Held in Aintree, Liverpool, this conference saw the publication of CPC’s report, the toolkit and a series of easy read guides, co-branded between CPC and the NHS, and we were also a keynote speaker. This was the culmination of 15 months of work, delivered by CPC’s Manchester Business Consulting Team. The project outputs can be found at http://www.northwest.nhs.uk/whatwedo/socialvalueproject/project%20documents.html

The work continues and further conferences and workshops are already in the diary with the NHS Confederation and NWREIP. CPC’s team is happy to discuss the findings at similar such events.

West Hampstead Synagogue Restoration - Runner-up at RICS Conservation Awards

The West Hampstead Synagogue - Grade II & II* listed - refurbishment project commenced on site in November 2007 and was completed in early September 2009. The project included the refurbishment and reconditioning of all major fabric and structures, including extensive work to the roof, the interior walls and ceilings, the exterior brickwork and guttering, and the unique stained glass windows; also the installation of a new heating system, disabled access facilities and modernisation of the lighting and cloakrooms.

CPC was appointed early in the construction phase to resolve a major delay and escalating costs on the project and was then retained to act as client representative to manage the construction phase and support the contract administration activities through to successful completion.

The West Hampstead Synagogue restoration was the Runner-up in the Conservation category of the prestigious Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors Awards on Wednesday 12 May 2010. It was pipped to the post only by the restoration of The Monument which, as such a national icon, had to be the clear favourite.

The entries were numerous, and the short list contained 16 contenders. These included various important buildings by other distinguished architects in the field, such as the Royal Institution, the Royal College of Pathologists, Hall Place, St Botolph’s Hall etc. The judges visited the building twice, asking many questions, and examined the contract documentation and drawings, as well as the planning and background papers.

This is the first such award for a synagogue, and the citation stated that the judges paid particular attention to the “construction materials and techniques used, conservation achievements, background research undertaken and the project’s long-term prospects.” The success is regarded as very much a team effort of everyone involved, and national recognition for a job well done by all.

CPC Sponsors SOLACE Wales Conference

As part of CPC's continued support of the Transformation agenda in Wales, we were the main sponsor at the SOLACE Wales event in Swansea on April 14th and 15th. This prestigious event was attended by senior officials from across local and central government in Wales, and provided CPC with a platform to engage the debate on the challenges facing the public sector.

Mike Hughes, Senior Manager in our Business Consulting team, chaired a Conference session on Innovation. The work CPC has delivered in Wales over the past 12 months has been at the cutting edge of innovation in the education sector, and this was a fantastic opportunity to lead the debate on how innovation can contribute to overcoming other challenges.

West Ham Bus Garage

The West Ham project team achieved completion of Phase 2 at West Ham Bus Garage on 5/11/09.

A development necessitated by the decanting of existing bus garages from the Olympic Games site, Phase 1 provided a temporary facility while the permanent construction is completed in Phase 2.

Over 300 buses will be accommodated with full workshop, fuel & wash facilities, and office accommodation, to high standards of sustainability including wind turbine, biomass boiler, water recycling, timber structure and green roofs.

West Hampstead Synagogue Restoration

In September 2009, CPC successfully completed the project management of the West Hampstead Synagogue refurbishment works.

The Ł3 million refurbishment project, which started in November 2007, involved the complete overhaul of the Grade 2 listed synagogue building.

The works included the reconditioning of all major fabric and structures, including extensive work to the roof, the interior walls and ceilings, the exterior brickwork and guttering, and the unique stained glass windows dating from the 19th century.

In addition to the refurbishment works, some major technological improvements were incorporated in the building. Among these were: a new state of the art heating system; a complete new lighting scheme and an update of all the synagogue’s facilities to meet the current building regulations.

CPC was part of a specialist heritage team which included Stonewest Ltd and Heritage Architecture, delivering very high standards of design and workmanship.
