Ysgol Ifor Bach

Ysgol Ifor Bach – Replacement School

Client: Caerphilly County Borough Council
Value: £4m
Duration: May 2005 to Summer 2007

Project Overview
It is envisaged that this new Welsh Medium Primary School, to replace the current outdated facility in Abetridwr, South Wales, will set the benchmark for all future schools of its type within the borough as a whole.

The school's design follows the best practice set out in the DfES exemplar models, and will use environmentally friendly technologies to achieve a high BREEAM rating.

The multi discipline team working with CPC comprises a local QS, Lee Wakemans along with van Heyningen & Haward Architects, Max Fordham M&E, and Price & Myers Structural Engineers, all of whom CPC has worked with successfully in the past.

CPC’s Role
Let under the GC/PC works form of contract , CPC were appointed by Caerphilly County Borough Council to Project Manage, Planning Supervise and Contract Administrate the design and development of the new school, working closely wit the service users and other enfranchised parties to deliver a building which acts as a focal point for the local community.

Client Benefits
The Council, having had prior poor experience when letting schools under PFI contracts, were looking for a bespoke solution to meet both their and the local communities needs.

The Council appointed the team as a result of their strong track record of working together and because the members are widely regarded as being at the forefront of the latest thinking on educational design issues, having been heavily involved in the recently launched DfES Exemplar school models.
