Project Overview
The Christie Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is developing a new patient unit that will provide the Trust with increased chemotherapy capacity, and the biggest Phase I clinical trials unit in the world. State-of-the-art aseptic and pharmacy facilities will also form part of the flagship project.
CPC's Role
Following the Trust Board approval of the Detailed Review, CPC were commissioned to provide the Project Management services of the project. The responsibility of the CPC consultants was extremely varied and ranged from managing all design team disciplines to providing support at executive level through presentations and high level reports.
CPC consultants were responsible for establishing a new project structure and governance arrangements suitable for the next design stage of the project, this included programme board, project team and design team.
CPC were responsible for managing the P21 process which included preparing a P21 High Level Information Pack, a process for evaluating the Expression of Interest Returns, and co-ordinating and facilitating an open day. CPC were also responsible for preparing the interview criteria and interview evaluation process together with an evaluation process.
CPC was responsible for ensuring that the design developed to the specification of the users without compromising the budget that had been approved within the detailed review, whilst also investigating options to reduce expenditure in certain areas.
Client Benefits
The Trust procured CPC as project managers which provided continuity and to build on the knowledge of the project from inception to detailed review (FBC) stage. The Trust had limited experience with Procure21, CPC consultants lead the executive members and project team members through the initial stages of the Procure21 process to ensure the vital decision of awarding a contract for a Principal Supply Chain Partner (PSCP) was undertaken in the most efficient and auditable manner.
CPC acted as the Trust agent and was therefore the single point of contact for members of the design team and contractors. This ensured that the users from the Trust were not overcome by information requests from different sources. It also provided clarity for the users as to who to contact in relation to all aspects of the project.
In conclusion, CPC provided the Trust with appropriate updates to the executive team to embed a no surprises regime. This process was distilled within the whole project hierarchy and demonstrated significant benefit to the project in terms of cost certainty and control.
