Morriston Hospital A&E/ITU
Client:
Client: Swansea NHS Trust
Value: £10m
Duration:
1999-2004
Project Overview
The existing A&E on the site was massively oversubscribed. The corresponding ITU dept was inadequate for the provision of modern healthcare standards. The project posed particular challenges with all departments continuing service throughout the development works.
Our project team worked closely with the end users throughout the programme to ensure that the design brief satisfied the requirements of such highly specialised applications encompassing the following units:
• Accident and Emergency (A&E),
• Intensive Therapy Unit (ITU)
• Fracture Clinic
• X-Ray Department.
CPC’s Role
CPC provided consultancy services to produce the Outline and Full Business Cases required securing the capital funding. Once secured, CPC project managed the delivery of the scheme, as well as providing Planning Supervision services.
Client Benefits
The much-needed redevelopment enables this major trauma unit to meet the increasing demand of the Swansea area. Projects such as this always present interesting challenges. The project required that the existing departments be allowed to continue operating normally whilst development progressed and that through strategic phasing of the programme minimal disruption be caused when interfacing the various elements of the re-development scheme.
