Burns Unit

Morriston Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit

Client: Client: Swansea NHS Trust
Value: £9m

Project Overview
CPC was appointed to revise an Outline and Full Business Case which had been submitted and required further elaboration as the requirement for both plastic surgery and the development of the plans for the Burns Centre had advanced whilst the cases were being considered by the Welsh Assembly Government (WAG). The Centre is seeking to become on of only six Burns Centres for the whole of Wales & England, covering Mid & South Wales, South West and Central Southern England as far as Hampshire. The case had been prepared by a consultant who joined CPC and he was able to complete the work. The project is under construction during 2007 and aims to be open at the beginning of 2008.

The Approach
The format of NHS business cases is determined by the Capital investment Manual and WAG required further work to be carried out to this comprehensive case which examined the sensitivity of the selection process under changing circumstances. WAG also required the financial aspects of the case to reflect the flow of cash between Wales and England for patients who were being treated in the absence of capacity at the Burns & Plastic Surgery Centre for Wales.
