Project Overview
The new Cardiothoracic/Neuroscience Building for the St George's Healthcare NHS Trust was procured under the Government Private Finance Initiative. The building accommodates
• 233 beds including 27 ITU beds,
• a large ambulatory care floor,
• a diagnostic department with the latest equipment including 2 MRI's,
• 8 theatres,
• 4 Catheter Laboratories,
• academic facilities,
and various Support Departments all integrated into a compact form on a tight urban site. Existing facilities at the Atkinson Morley Neuroscience Hospital together with Cardiothoracic Unit at St George's have been decanted into the new building.
CPC’s Role
As Technical Advisor to the Trust, provided input to the Building Output Specification and Works Stipulations, interfacing with the Consortium’s contractor over construction procedures, methods for providing protection to the retained site
and the phasing of works/handovers. CPC also managed the 1:50 clinically loaded drawings through the design development and approval stage. As part of the PFI project the existing hospital was subject to a full programme of Enabling Works. CPC were instructed as project managers to undertake the following:
• Relocation of the ‘League of Friends Outlet’,
• Reversal of the perimeter road,
• Demolition of existing buildings,
• Formation of a new Access Road,
• Erection of Temporary Buildings and the Decanting of Office Accommodation and Wards,
• Installation of Hepa Filtration to ITU,
• Isolation units.
