Operation Hawkeye (CCTV)
Client: London Underground Limited
Value: £5.0m
Duration: 2000 - 2004
Project Overview
Car parks attract crime, especially after dark. Operation Hawkeye, a joint initiative by London Underground Ltd and British Transport Police, with funding from the Government’s Crime Reduction Programme, provides 24 hour CCTV coverage of London Underground’s 60 car parks. The cameras have been positioned to cover every parking space and the registration number of every vehicle entering a car park, The images are transmitted via BT land lines to dedicated Hawkeye control rooms located in British Transport Police stations, one of which is pictured above. Rapid responses to observed incidents can be initiated from there. In addition, a call point in each car park provides users with direct access to a Hawkeye control room.
CPC’s Role
CPC was involved from the inception of Operation Hawkeye. CPC coordinated the successful bid for Government funding, facilitated the tender processes and the appointment of contractors. CPC then managed the project team of consultants and contractors that designed and installed the necessary equipment in the car parks and control rooms, and delivered a fully operational system.
Client Benefits
