London Trams -
Procurement of Strategic Design Consultancy
Client: Transport For London – Croydon Tramlink
Value: Ł131k
Project Overview
The Croydon Tram system was acquired by TfL in summer 2008. The system consists of 28km of track around Croydon with 24 trams in operation.
CPC’s Role
CPC was commissioned to develop an integrated Strategic Procurement Strategy for the overall Tramlink system covering maintenance and upgrade works. The main body of work was to put in place a Strategic Design Consultancy (SDC) contract for all aspects of the design for Tramlink requirements.
This activity includes stakeholder engagement, requirements capture, tracking, and change control, supplier warming event, tender document preparation, tender evaluation, and assistance with contract award.
Client Benefits
CPC’s approach to this assignment was to offer a fixed price composite team service for the delivery of the SDC contract, along with a “called off” technical advice service, for use if Tramlink’s internal technical specialist were unavailable to provide detailed technical input to the tender documents.
- Access to a wide range of specialist advice at a similar pricing level to engaging a single individual agency person.
- Fixed price contract shared risk between TfL and CPC
- CPC specialist procurement and technical team members called in as required, allowing flexibility in service delivery
